VituralMac Update

At MacWorld I got a chance to talk to one of the Freds of FredsLab about VirtualMac. He said the only problem with QuickTime support was that it touched the hardware in some places.

He fully beleives QuickTime will work, albeit slowly. In other words, you probably won't want to use it for much other than verification that it does work.

They have some hurdles to cross before they know exactly how well the emulator will work. Be is onviously working with them.

Due to licensing issues, VirtualMac will only run on a PowerMac BeOS box, not a BeBox.

Mail Daemon Update

On day one I reported a problem with the mail daemon in that it could not handle addresses with full names in it. A new mail daemon that supposedly fixes it is at:

<ftp://ftp.be.com//pub/dr8_update/mail_daemon.gz>

and the instructions at:

<ftp://ftp.be.com//pub/dr8_update/mail_daemon.txt>

However, this fix looks to be the same as the mail_daemon that shipped with BeOS and does not appear to fix the problem.

Boot Problems

I and several others have had variable luck with booting. Sometimes, the extension will just boot into a gray screen, and not boot again. Other times, the launcher fails by not loading its PEF fragment. You can fix the latter by giving the BeOS Launcher more memory, such as 2,000K.

If any of you are having boot problems, please send me email at .
