Tech blogs are abuzz about the “select lucky few” getting their iPhone 4’s early.
I don’t have an exact count, but I’d bet it is in the thousands. I ordered my phone as soon as the Apple Store came online, so I know I was in the early bunch.
Delivering a product early is unprecedented for Apple, but I believe they made this decision for three reasons:
It takes some of the load off of the activation servers on Thursday
It takes some of the load off FedEx on Thursday
Those who do activate on Wednesday will be helping to last-minute check the activation process for any unforeseen issues.
Who knows. Maybe the phone won’t arrive Wednesday. Maybe it well but we won’t be able to activate it. Or maybe I won’t have anyone to make a FaceTime call to until Thursday 🙂
