Apple released Mac OS X 10.2.1 today. However, the Mail bug I have reported with them still exists.
If you create an image with Graphic Converter and save using JPEG 6, dragging that file into a Mail message will cause Mail to lock up.
Switch your GC prefs to save JPEGs with QuickTime. This bug was not present in 10.1.5’s Mail application.

turns out this lockup is really, really slow rendering. Up to 5 minutes. It sure needs a fix!
