Why I won’t be getting an iPhone 3G (soon)

I don’t know when/if I’ll be getting a iPhone 3G, but I know it won’t be soon and the reason is cost.

Steve Jobs touted the lower cost of the iPhone – Bullshit, Steve. At $15 a month more for the same service (unlimited data + 200 sms), this comes out to $360 over two years more.

Ok, so it is 3G vs EDGE. I can respect the $10 more for data. But eliminating the 200 SMS, and charging a $18 “upgrade” fee, has left me cold.

Screw off AT&T. Maybe by the time my iPhone dies, there will be more carrier options in the US.

Or maybe not and maybe AT&T will win – but not for now. They’re going to have to wait to milk me for more money.

  1. I won’t be getting an iPhone 3G soon for several reasons. – iPhone 2.0 will keep me happy. – Surprisingly, we have 3G here and most of the places I visit has 3G but not everywhere. – AT&T’s pricing and disloyalty to the original iPhone owners who really helped their bottom line has left me cold. – There will be kinks as the gates open July 11, I don’t want to be involved with that. – I’ll wait for a price drop from either Apple or AT&T (SMS is cheap overseas, why not here? Oh yeah, greed.) – iPhone 3G makes for a great Christmas gift. – After how much I paid for the iPhone, I’ll wait until my 2yr contract is up next summer and see what happens with other carriers (are you listening T-Mobile?) or until someone realizes what a great Christmas/Birthday gift iPhone 3G is.
